The Breeder’s Futurity

The Breeder’s Futurity is an open futurity based on the yearly Stallion Service Auction (SSA). In order to be eligible to show in the Futurity, the sire of the foal must be nominated and the service sold in the SSA the year preceding the birth of your foal. Further down on this page are links to the lists of eligible stallions by year. If your foal’s sire did not sell through the SSA, you can use the Alternate Entry Program to enter your individual foals. See more information under the Alternative Entry Program paragraph below.

Classes are as follows:

  • Weanling Halter (Early and Late)
  • Yearling Halter
  • Yearling Longe Line
  • 2yo Halter
  • 2yo Western Pleasure
  • 2yo Western Pleasure Non-Pro
  • 2/3yo Hunter Under Saddle
  • 3yo Western Pleasure

Mare owners who purchase stallion services through the SSA, and stallion owners who donate a breeding that sells through the SSA, each have the right to nominate one foal as eligible for the ½ price entry fee. This ½ price entry fee will follow the foal through the entire Futurity, and is transferable should the ownership of the foal change. In order to take advantage of this discount entry fee option, the stallion owner and mare owner must contact the Futurity Committee with the foal’s information by August 15st of the foaling year.

New in 2020 - We are adding three non pro classes that are separate from the Futurity classes that will cost $100.00 to enter and will be money in and money out. We are adding:

  • Non Pro Weanling Mares
  • Non Pro Weanling Stallions/Geldings
  • Non Pro Yearling Longe Line

Alternative Entry Program

For foals of stallions whose services were not sold through the Illinois Paint Horse Association Stallion Service Auction: In instances where a stallion was nominated and did not sell, or was not nominated at all, foals by those stallions may become eligible to show on an individual basis under a hardship clause. Upon payment of a nomination fee equal to the greater of: 1/2 the current advertised stud fee OR $250, the office fee of $25 and the normal class entry fee; the foal will be eligible to compete in their corresponding age classes, and may compete in classes in subsequent years with payment of the normal class entry fees. No other foals by that stallion will be eligible to show unless their owners make the previously-noted payment for each foal.

Entry deadline is AUGUST 15th at normal fees. LATE DEADLINE: Entries postmarked after midnight August 15th will be considered late, and class entry fees will be doubled. Finally entry date for late entries is ten days prior to the date of the IPHA Fall Futurity & POR show.
